EVSU scribes garner nat'l awards

TAGAYTAY CITY-EVSU-SPO writers garnered two merits in the Organization of Students Services Educators, Inc., (OSSEI) National Conference on Campus Journalism and 2nd National Writing Competition held last January 15-17 at the Developemnt Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Conference Center.

During the awarding ceremony led by Dr. Bella M. Villanueve, OSSEI president, Martin M. Esoto, Photojournalist caped 2nd place in Photojournalism contest. Delegates Mark A. Enem, Carlo Carloman, Ronabelle J. Acibar, Romeo Gregorio S. Olaybar II, and Martin M. Esoto grabbed 3rd place in Best Page Design and Layout for the Industrial Wheel.

Prof. Luz Rimban, a multitalented instructor of the Colege of Mass Communication, UP Diliman commenced the seminar proper and emphasized the way writers should write fair and effective editorial while avoiding cases against libel. Prof. Ben Domingo, Jr., Central Luzon State University’s (CLSU) outstanding lecturer tackled new trends beyond the traditional sports and news writing.

Prof. Amida V. Santiago, from the College of Mass Communication discussed the effective way of designing newsletters and tabloids to make it more appealing to readers. Dr. Paz H. Diaz, vice president for Academics, Roosevelt College, discussed about photojournalism and projected with artistry while merging the laws in capturing photos. “The vital role of a campus journalist is that he is a laboratory of truth, honesty, goodness and sincerity among young people,” said keynote speaker Dr. Adelaida C. Fronda, Dean of Student Affairs, Far Eastern University (FEU). The said affair gathered 79 delegates from 21 different colleges and universities all throughout the country.
