EVSU scribes defend top post
The EVSU Student Publications Office (SPO) reaffirmed its status as the leading campus publication in the region as the Office reaped 13 prestigious awards in group and individual competitions during the 13th Regional Tertiary Schools Press Conference (RTSPC) held at Hotel La Rica, Tacloban City on December 14-16, 2009.
Five of the SPO staff members were proclaimed winners in eight individual competitions. Martin M. Esoto ranked 1st place both in News Writing (Filipino) and Sports Writing (Filipino) while Danna Mae A. Lucas placed 2nd in News Writing (English) and 4th in Investigative Reporting (Filipino). Also, Christine Zyra B. Cabel positioned 4th in Copy Reading and Headline Writing (Filipino) while Victorino D. Mendiola III seized 2nd and 5th place in Photojournalism Filipino and Photojournalism English respectively. They also secured 2nd place in Desktop Publishing represented by Romeo Gregorio S. Olaybar II and Victorino D.Mendiola III.
Moreover, EVSU topped the group competitions receiving four plaques and a Certificate of Merit. The Industrial Wheel’s Nexus and Colours (Literary Folio) were adjudged the Best Magazine and Best Special Publication respectively. SPO also bagged three 2nd places in the recognition for Best Tabloid, Best Newsletter and Best Documentary.
“I am shocked and at the same time happy of what happened. Delegates were so competitive and they were really giving their best in the contest” says Esoto in an interview.
The three-day conference anchored on the theme, ” Quality Campus Journalism Towards Social Development”, was participated by 37 private institutions and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across the region
The said event was spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in close coordination with the Regional Tertiary Schools Press Advisers Association (RTSPAA) and Asian Development Foundation College (ADFC) Institute of Journalism.
