About ORPES

The Office of Research, Planning and Extension Services



There shall be an
Office of Research, Planning and Extension Services (ORPES) headed by a Vice President who shall be designated by the University President and confirmed by the Board of Regents in accordance with the provisions of the University Code or such other laws or regulations promulgated by competent authorities.


EXTENSION SERVICES FUNCTION OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Eastern Visayas State University, just like any institution of higher learning shares in the responsibility to actively participate or undertake in any programs, projects and activities that would contribute to the countryside development of Region 8. These programs, projects and activities are in line with the distinctive technologies, expertise and other available resources that the university offers to its clientele. Its role as development catalyst is to initiate, sustain and collaborate developmental activities together with its partner agencies and communities. Its philosophy, vision, mission and goals inspire its members to share God’s given gift to the less fortunate ones in the society.



A center for excellence for high quality science and technology and non-science and technology researches in line with the University’s mandate complementary to regional and national development.



To oversee the management of all the University’s research activities of the university and facilitate the dissemination and utilization of the research outputs to the prospective clientele to improve instruction and quality of life.




The Extension Program of the Eastern Visayas State University is anchored on the Dignity of Man and the belief that each and every individual has the right to attain fulfi llment of his/her life. Further, every member of the community shares responsibility in shaping the wholesome development of the same society that he/she is a part of. By doing extension work, the University enriches its wealth of knowledge and expertise and meaningfully connects its people to the realities of the communities they are serving. In extension services, work is done sincerely, responsively and in the spirit of voluntarism or “pakikipagkapwa tao”. Every extensionist possesses professional and social commitment by upholding excellence and fairness in their relationship to clients and stakeholders. All extensionists seek actively the knowledge contribution to the profession that they are a part of and support all efforts in extension towards a meaningful, substantive, and sustained achievement of EVSU Vision. In line with the University’s Vision, the unit states hereunder its own VMG.



To improve the quality of the life, reduce poverty incidenceand sustain development gains among community youths, the unemployed and underemployed adults, working men and women from low-income communities, and differently-abled persons. The Extension Services Unit likewise subscribes to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and the Philippine Agenda 21. The UN Millennium Development Goals (1990-2015) are
as follows:

1. Reduce extreme poverty and hunger;
2. Achieve universal primary education for boys and girls
3. Promote gender equality and empowerment of women in education, work and politics;
4. Reduce 2/3 mortality ratio of children under 5 years old;
5. Stands-still to the spread of AIDS, Malaria, TB and other communicable diseases;
6. Reduce 3/4 maternal mortality ratio;
7. Ensure environmental sustainability through improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation;
8. Global partnership for development (Good Governance).
