News CAS production mandate intensifies through Book Writeshop

The College of Arts and Sciences at EVSU-Main Campus conducted a book writeshop to address the paucity of academic plight in the conduct of flexible learning modality amid the new normal paradigm at ORDEX Hall, 9 am, November 3.

Faculty members of the College, respective deans, department heads,and the resource speakers from Bulacan State University- Dr Teody San Andres and Dr. Eugene Mutuc graced the activity.

Dr. Glenda B. Tupaz, the Dean of the College, reiterated to the participants as regards the pivotal role the faculty members play in the teaching-learning process, “This book writeshop envisions to help learners achieve germane learning competencies through instructor-led activities, learner-centered curriculum, and outcomes-based content  that will elicit lifelong learning so necessary to become globally competitive professionals imbued with life skills,” Dr. Tupaz emphasized.

Being an educator himself, Dr. San Andres, CEO of the St. Andrew Publishing House, encouraged the faculty to write and leave a legacy that will last forever. “If you want to be remembered through this life, you have to write a book,” asserted Dr. Andres. Similarly, he discussed more on book publication and how it impacted the lives of the students and how it advanced the author’s professional development as this shared knowledge transformed the students to become globally competitive professionals.

Further, he underscored two important reasons as to why publication is a must: SUC leveling determines the quality of graduates in terms of research outcomes, and it is always an ingredient when accreditors come asking for data in relation to publication, journals, among others.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mutuc shared the legal processes in relation to book publication and proliferation which include financial matters, responsibilities and accountability via Memorandum of Agreement. He also went on to elaborate that as professionals we ought to be the wellspring of wisdom that can be realized through research and publication.

Equipped with content and skills of the subject content, the second day of the writeshop focused on the production and presentation of modules and books, thereby addressing the learners’ needs in this technological age.  

Presentations of modules from different departments of the college highlighted the events. Representatives from Department of Chemistry, Department of Languages and Literature, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Department of General Education, and Department of Environmental Sciences shared their modules which will supplement the learning needs of the students in the post- pandemic era.

Certificates of recognition were given to the resource speakers, additionally, Dr. Fideliza Cojuangco, College Curriculum Coordinator, commended the effort of the college to recalibrate the canon of the instructional materials that will best meet the requirements in the academe.
