News GAD Seminar-Workshop highlights Life Coaching Talk

A life coaching talk titled “Unleash Your Power Within” highlighted the Gender and Development (GAD) office’s seminar-workshop,May 30 at the ORDEX Hall at 1:00-4:00 pm.

Putting equilibrium to gender equality and empowerment, the office invited a renowned speaker, Dr. Rommel de Paz Capungcol, who works in various professional and medical fields, a surgeon and a police commission officer, not to mention his life coaching passion which made him inspire people from all walks of life.

Dr. Capungcol shared that life coaching is not something we can hear daily, but he described that a life coach is someone who counsels or encourages clients through personal and professional challenges.

Further, a life coach’s goal is to deal with people who lack self-confidence, so they will be motivated to see the gilded visage of life’s reality.

Having had a robust experience with speaking engagement and counseling, he elucidated four tips on how one will be productive from what he is doing: forget things that you know because the first problem in learning is feeling that we know already those ideas and concepts; second is be active; then, always wear what state you are in; and lastly, be able to teach somebody.

The resource speaker facilitated a group activity that made the afternoon session more pulsating. In a small group, participants shared their problems and challenges in life. Themes like personal struggle, time management, motivation issues, financial aspects, and work-related problems, among others, emerged.

Needless to say, Dr. Capungcol emphasized that there is no such thing as a wrong decision. There might be awful consequences, but it is still a correct decision. It is just directing you to another path. “God has a way of letting us see our dreams, but not the process of how you will go there,” he affirmed.

Anent financial management, one needs to major in the majors, and one should do things that have a lot of effects or benefits because when one looks for a reason, he will always find an answer. The same goes with financial management principles; as regards lack of motivation, he suggested one not get motivated by somebody else. “I can motivate you all I want, but if you are not ready to accept one, you can never be motivated,” he added.

With regard to stress and emotional crisis, he discussed universal symptoms of the latter: changes in mood, dizziness, and anxiety. He further stated that there are even some physical signs of stress: high blood pressure, changes in weight, frequent colds, and infections. As to the correlations of all these symptoms, Dr. Capungcol added that when your mind is disturbed, your body goes with it.

He concluded with enlightening perspectives as regards the general antidote to the problem of both men and women, “If you want to take care of your emotional health, you should know your mind,” concluded Dr. Capungcol.

The event was enjoined by different GAD coordinators and faculty members of the various colleges and campuses, with the guidance of Dr. Fatima Socorro M. Quianzon,  GAD Director of the university.
