Abstract
Can we ignore a “clear and present danger” that we will revert back to the time that a person’s exercise of liberty depends only on the whims and caprices of those in executive positions? Shall we give a consent to a social condition that the exercise of our freedom will be denied just for some trivial grounds, and worst, there is no way to air a grievance for fear of being branded as an “enemy of the state” as dictated by those who handle the reign of power and authority? When are we going to silence the grandstanding of cronies-in-barong for purported achievements in their agencies, which justifies their hard-line stances so as to get the attention of the Chief Executive, while clandestinely preparing the net for eventual raking of profits out of their investments in the previous elections? To what extent do we have to allow public officials — by means of legal apathy and humanitarian arrogance — to “rule above the law”?
