Dr. Pearl Aphrodite Bobon-Carnice, Director of Research & Development and the focal person of the Eastern Visayas Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (EVMEIC) housed at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Tacloban, recently participated in the MEIC Batch II Benchmarking and Strategic Planning Activity spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology – Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC).
Held from April 22 to 28, 2025, the activity brought together MEIC focal persons from 10 innovation centers across the country. The week-long mission aimed to observe world-class innovation practices, strengthen R&D programs, and explore pathways for commercialization and public-private partnerships.
The delegation visited key institutions recognized for their engineering and agri-mechanization innovations, including:
- USTP Northern Mindanao Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (NorMMEIC) – April 22
- Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech), Nueva Ecija – April 23
- De La Salle University and Mapúa University – April 24
- DOST-MIRDC, Taguig City – April 25, for Strategic Plan Finalization and Services Costing
- UPLB Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH) – April 28
The activity focused on enhancing MEIC capabilities in technology development, project selection, and fabrication, and building stronger collaboration networks. As a result, the Eastern Visayas MEIC is set to adopt best practices observed during the mission to better serve the region’s engineering and innovation needs.
Dr. Bobon-Carnice expressed enthusiasm in applying the strategies learned, emphasizing that “these engagements are vital in positioning EVSU as a leading hub for metals and engineering innovation in Eastern Visayas.”
