As part of EVU’s ongoing involment with the Department of Social Welfare and Development’ s(DSWD) Tara Basa tutoring program, the DSWD hosted a pre-deployment activity for its student volunteers serving as tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) for the program. The event was held on May 16 at the EVSU Auditorium, preparing the volunteers for their upcoming roles in the program.
During the session, DSWD representatives led a refresher discussion on the Child Protection Policy to ensure that all tutors and YDWs fully understand their responsibilities in safeguarding the welfare and rights of the children they will be working with. Emphasis was placed on the importance of maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment, especially for vulnerable youth.
The volunteers were then assigned to their respective areas where they will provide tutoring and youth development services.
Finally, the pre-deployment activity covered the reporting and administrative requirements that the tutors and YDWs must comply with throughout their service. Clear guidelines were provided to streamline documentation, monitoring, and feedback, helping both the DSWD and EVSU track the progress and impact of the Tara Basa initiative.
This pre-deployment preparation marks an important step in EVSU’s commitment to community engagement and social development. Through programs like Tara Basa, student volunteers contribute meaningfully to uplifting literacy and youth empowerment across the region.
