News 2025 President’s Cup opens with excitement, camaraderie, and new leadership

Tacloban City, Philippines – On August 6, 2025, the annual President’s Cup 2025 launched at 3PM with a solemn opening prayer, bringing together EVSU’s teaching, non-teaching personnel, and alumni in a shared moment of friendship and sports. The highly anticipated event marks not only a celebration of athletic spirit but also unity across campuses.

During his welcome remarks, Mr. Lyndon Alberca described the Cup as “more than a sporting event,” calling it a celebration of discipline, passion, and togetherness through basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and football. “It’s a celebration of camaraderie,” Alberca said, highlighting the importance of community within competition.

University President Dennis de Paz announced the appointment of four new Vice Presidents, set to begin their roles on August 8. Following a decisive board meeting, the new organizational structure has been approved, signaling a transformative chapter for the institution.

In his address, de Paz reflected on the deeper value of sports: “Sports played a crucial role, especially during the pandemic,” he noted. “It has the power to bring people together. Our goal is to gain friends across campuses as a testament to holistic development.” He concluded with an inspiring message, “Champions are not born, they are developed and nurtured.”

The festivities continued with the formal presentation of athletes, followed by the kick-off of various games: basketball at the inner court and volleyball behind the newly constructed administration building. The campus buzzed with energy as teams geared up for friendly competition and fun.

The President’s Cup 2025 promises more than trophies—it offers a platform for growth, unity, and lasting connections.
