Five (5) creative and quick-witted students from Eastern Visayas State University’s College of Business and Entrepreneurship (COBE) emerged as champions in the “Beat the Prompt” Video Edition during the 2nd ASBN Student Colloquium and Student Symposium, a key segment of the 2nd ASBN International Conference, held virtually from July 1–29, 2025.

Competing in an international arena against university teams from across ASEAN, the winning team composed of Riniel Paul L. Baoy (BSBA MM 3B), Art Maurick Melgar (BSBA MM 4A), Xan Verl Cj Masbang (BSBA MM 2A), Jesalyn A. Martinez (BSE 4A), and Margiel M. Talledo (BSE 3B), captivated the judges with their exceptional creativity, strong storytelling, and the ability to craft a compelling video in response to a surprise prompt.

Organized by the ASEAN School of Business Network (ASBN), an international consortium of higher education institutions across Southeast Asia, the “Beat the Prompt” challenge tested participants’ ability to merge rapid ideation with authentic human creativity, echoing the global conversation on how to “beat the algorithm.”

The competition ran alongside the workshop “Storytelling & Creative Expression Against AI”, which featured interactive sessions on infusing human touch into digital narratives, innovative video production, and a live micro-video sprint.

EVSU President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz was also among the distinguished discussants of the event, lending his expertise and insights to the international dialogue on creativity, innovation, and the evolving role of higher education in the digital age.

The University’s international triumph not only brought honor but also highlighted its students’ adaptability, teamwork, and innovative spirit, proving that in an AI-driven era, human imagination remains unmatched on the world stage.
