The Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), through its Office of Internationalization, will co-host the 28th Cine Europa Film Festival in partnership with the European Union Delegation in the Philippines. The festival will run from September 15–20, 2025, at the Studio Room of the ORDEX Building, EVSU Main Campus.
This year’s Tacloban leg of Cine Europa will feature 12 films from different European countries, showcasing a wide array of genres that mirror Europe’s diverse cultures, histories, and values. This will be the first time that EVSU will co-host the prestigious international film festival, which is typically screened in Manila and other major metropolitan centers in the country.
The project aims to promote intercultural understanding, strengthen academic and cultural linkages, and broaden the global perspective of students and the wider community. By bringing European cinema to Eastern Visayas, the event also underscores EVSU’s commitment to internationalization through cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity.
The significance of hosting Cine Europa 28 lies in its ability to provide local students with an immersive experience in world cinema, helping them appreciate global issues such as identity, diversity, human rights, sustainability, and social inclusion. Students and faculty from various universities, colleges, and municipalities in and around Tacloban City have been invited to participate, turning the event into a hub for intercultural dialogue and learning.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project particularly advances:
SDG 4: Quality Education, by offering students new learning avenues beyond the classroom through cultural exposure;
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by making international films accessible to local communities;
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening collaboration between EVSU, the European Union Delegation, and other stakeholders.
EVSU officials emphasized that Cine Europa 28 is more than just a film festival — it is a platform for cultural diplomacy and global engagement, opening doors for dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning between Europe and Eastern Visayas.
