News GAD holds RA 11476 seminar for JHS students

The Gender and Development (GAD) Office of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), in partnership with the Secondary Laboratory School (SLS), recently conducted a seminar on the Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) and Values Education Act or Republic Act 11476 for the university’s final batch of Junior High School (JHS) students this July 25 at the Graduate School Function Hall.

As explained by event organizers, the event was held with the goal of instilling to the university’s youngest learners the values of respect, integrity, and responsible citizenship—principles at the heart of RA 11476.

By emphasizing the importance of character formation along with academic instruction, the seminar aims to prepare students not only for the demands of their future studies but also for their roles as members of society.

Through the GAD office’s involvement, the seminar also goes beyond the traditional discussions of manners and values. Speaker Dr. Fatima Socorro Quianzon, the director of the GAD Office, also shared the importance of fairness, inclusivity, and mutual respect in everyday interactions, echoing a broader call to dismantle harmful stereotypes and promote equal opportunities for all.

The sessions encouraged the students to reflect on how respect for differences, whether it be with gender, culture, or belief systems translates into stronger communities and healthier relationships.

The university recognizes that shaping students’ values during their formative years is crucial in nurturing individuals who can contribute to a more compassionate and equitable future.

Through initiatives such as this, the university furthers its goals create an educational space where dignity and equality are prioritized, ensuring that students grow in an environment that celebrates both diversity and shared humanity.
