News EVSU seals partnership with New Hope Elementary School for Project L.I.G.H.T.

Eastern Visayas State University’s (EVSU) School of Education, through its Elementary Education Department, led the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between EVSU and New Hope Elementary School (NHES) for the project L.I.G.H.T. (Literacy, Innovation, Growth, and Holistic Teaching).

The event was held on October 22 at the ORIES Studio Room and was attended by New Hope Elementary School Principal Aileen Apostol, Master Teachers, and members of the School Parent-Teacher Association. Representing EVSU were University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Dr. Danilo B. Pulma, School of Education Dean Dr. Jovito B. Madeja, and Elementary Education Department Head Dr. Bryan Gervacio.

EVSU has long carried out initiatives such as Project L.I.G.H.T. as part of its ongoing drive of advancing quality education through extension programs, creating meaningful learning opportunities for the communities that the university serves.

L.I.G.H.T., an initiative authored by Dr. Leancel Homeres, is proposed to be a yearlong extension partnership between EVSU’s Elementary Education Department and New Hope Elementary School under the Department of Education (DEPEd), Tacloban City Division.

The extension program’s main thrust is to enhance literacy and numeracy instruction, encourage innovative and inclusive teaching, nurture values formation, and build sustainable community partnerships.

The project will be sustained through the establishment of a Reading Hub in the New Hope Elementary school, continuous teacher training, and the active involvement of EVSU Elementary Education students as tutors in reading and numeracy activities.

Through EVSU’s partnership with the New Hope Elementary School, both institutions will work hand in hand to strengthen literacy, encourage innovation, and support lifelong learning.

The School of Education and EVSU express their gratitude to the Department of Education and New Hope Elementary School for this partnership and their shared vision for a brighter educational future.
