Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) actively advances Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals through dynamic collaborations that integrate education, research, and community service for regional and national transformation. Guided by its vision to be a leading university for resiliency and sustainable development, EVSU fosters strong linkages with government agencies, international organizations, private institutions, civil society groups, and other higher education institutions to amplify collective impact.
EVSU’s partnerships with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Local Government of Tunga exemplify its proactive engagement in sustainable development. Through these alliances, the University moves beyond consultation to co-creation—turning ideas into policies and programs that directly improve lives across Eastern Visayas.
Through its partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Eastern Visayas State University serves as a research and capacity-building partner in advancing transparent and accountable governance. The University co-authors policy research, facilitates the Citizen Satisfaction Index System (CSIS), and develops governance studies that empower local leaders to make informed, evidence-based decisions, improving public service delivery and community participation in governance processes.
In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), EVSU co-creates innovation ecosystems—such as the Natural Textile Innovation Hub and Textile Academy—developing new products from natural fibers, equipping MSMEs with technology and commercialization support, and deploying smart-agriculture prototypes that strengthen the regional economy. Through this partnership, EVSU ensures that academic research translates into sustainable community and industry impact.
Through its formal partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tunga, Leyte, EVSU anchors its commitment to community-driven development. The five-year agreement (2024–2029) sets the stage for joint initiatives such as Project L.I.V.E, empowering women entrepreneurs in Barangay San Pedro and the ‘DIA-Life’ health screening series tackling diabetes and chronic disease among residents. These efforts exemplify how the university and a local government unit can co-create opportunities, strengthen community resilience, and translate knowledge into sustainable action.
Each partnership reflects EVSU’s steadfast commitment to translating the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) into local realities. By integrating knowledge generation, capacity building, and community engagement, EVSU continues to serve as a catalyst for sustainable and inclusive development in Eastern Visayas—proving that genuine progress is possible when the University and its partners work hand in hand for the common good.
