By collaborating with global and regional partners, EVSU enhances its institutional capacity for evidence-based planning and reinforces its commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainability. These partnerships enable the University to align its initiatives with global standards, support national SDG monitoring efforts, and advance its role as an active contributor to the international sustainable development agenda.

EVSU Advances International Collaboration for SDG Data Gathering and Sustainability at the CBIE Conference

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), represented by its University President, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, participated in the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-led delegation to the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) Annual Conference held on November 3–6, 2024. The international forum, themed “Beyond the Horizon,” emphasized sustainable international cooperation, innovation, and capacity-building as strategic approaches for higher education institutions in addressing global challenges and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the conference, EVSU joined other Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in signing a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Philippines–Canada Network for Sustainability (PCNS) — a collaborative platform designed to foster research partnerships, data-sharing initiatives, and policy dialogues focused on sustainability and SDG implementation. The network brings together member universities including Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Catanduanes State University (CSU), Mountain Province State University (MPSU), St. Paul University Manila (SPU Manila), University of Northern Philippines (UNP), Cavite State University (CavSU), Isabela State University (ISU), Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), and University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

The MOU provides a framework for collaborative data gathering and analysis on key areas such as climate resilience, sustainable development, higher education governance, and innovation ecosystems, aligning directly with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through the PCNS, participating HEIs—including EVSU—aim to jointly generate and share data that supports evidence-based policymaking, international benchmarking, and sustainable campus initiatives.

Moreover, the MOU opens opportunities for partnership and data collaboration with leading Canadian institutions, including the University of Manitoba, Algonquin College, Memorial University of Newfoundland, University of Ottawa, Wilfrid Laurier University, Northern College, University of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick Community College, and Dalhousie University. These linkages are expected to facilitate mutual learning, joint research publications, and the co-development of data-driven sustainability indicators that reflect shared priorities between Philippine and Canadian higher education systems.

Such international engagements affirm EVSU’s active role in the global movement toward sustainable development. By collaborating with CHED and international academic partners in generating and measuring SDG-related data, EVSU strengthens its institutional capacity for research, innovation, and evidence-based governance—advancing its vision to become the National University for Resiliency and Climate Action and contributing meaningfully to both national and global SDG monitoring frameworks.

EVSU Advances International Research Collaboration on Green Technologies and SDG Data through Taiwan NSTC–NTHU Program

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), represented by its Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Services (VPRDE), Dr. Analyn C. Españo, was among the distinguished participants in the International Joint Research and Training Workshop on Environmentally Green Technology for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Net Zero Emission, held from October 29 to November 9, 2024, in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.

The 10-day intensive program, funded by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) of Taiwan and hosted by the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) under the leadership of Prof. Ruey-an Dong and Dr. Hui Lin Ong, convened scientists, academics, and researchers from 11 countries, including the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Out of more than 500 global applicants, only 31 institutions were selected to participate, underscoring EVSU’s growing recognition as a research-oriented and sustainability-driven university in Asia.

The workshop’s objectives were aligned with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action)—promoting the integration of environmentally green technologies into research, industry, and community practices to achieve net zero emissions. Participants engaged in collaborative research planning, data exchange sessions, and innovation labs designed to advance regional and international SDG monitoring mechanisms through shared datasets and best practices.

Through EVSU’s participation, the University contributed to discussions on green technology adoption, circular economy practices, and carbon footprint assessment, while also forging partnerships with universities and research institutions across Asia. These emerging collaborations lay the groundwork for joint research projects and SDG data-sharing initiatives, particularly in climate adaptation and sustainable production systems.

Upon her return, Dr. Españo emphasized her commitment to applying the workshop’s insights to strengthen EVSU’s research and development systems, promote data-informed sustainability strategies, and cultivate new international collaborations that enhance the University’s contributions to SDG-aligned innovation and evidence-based environmental governance.

EVSU Strengthens ASEAN Collaboration on Data-Driven Quality Assurance and SDG 4 through AUN-QA International Conference 2024

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), represented by its University President, Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, participated in the ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) International Conference 2024, held on December 11–12, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
