Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) has opened its doors to provide temporary shelter for residents affected by Typhoon Uwan, demonstrating its commitment to community service in times of crisis.
As of 3:00 AM today, more than 150 evacuees have been accommodated in the ABS-CBN building and other designated areas across the campus. Those taking refuge include students, families of university employees, and residents from Barangays 43-B and 44. The university has ensured that these facilities are equipped with basic necessities, including food, clean water, and sleeping arrangements.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised Signal No. 2 over Tacloban City and nearby municipalities, warning of strong winds and heavy rains expected over the next 24 hours. Local authorities continue to advise residents to stay indoors and follow safety precautions to minimize risks.
EVSU’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Committee, in close coordination with local government units, continues to monitor the situation around the clock. The committee is also overseeing the distribution of essential supplies and ensuring that evacuees receive necessary medical attention and support.
University officials expressed their solidarity with the affected community, emphasizing that the institution stands ready to assist those in need during emergencies.
This proactive response by EVSU gives emphasis on the university’s dedication not only to academic excellence but also to humanitarian service, providing a safe haven and reassurance to those affected by Typhoon Uwan.
