News EVSU GAD and MOVE reaffirm their support for the rights of women and children through the initiative “Serbisyong Legal Para kay Juana at Juan.”

As part of the month-long celebration honoring women and children this March, the Office of Gender and Development (GAD) at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), in partnership with MOVE — Men Opposed to Violence against Women and Children Everywhere — hosted a seminar and consultation that offered free legal services to participants from both within and outside the university.

Carrying the theme “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”, the initiative highlighted the vital role of women as the heartbeat of communities and emphasized the importance of empowering them through knowledge of their rights.

Legal experts shared insights on landmark laws protecting women and children. EVSU Legal Assistant II, Aiken Jude Lopez, delivered a comprehensive presentation on Republic Act 9710, widely known as the Magna Carta of Women. This was followed by an in-depth discussion on the Magna Carta of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by Legal Assistant II, Norbelyn Cadaro.

Volunteer lawyers also lent their expertise, including:
– Leonila Rosario J. Rojas
– Sibyl Leo S. Salazar
– Christianne Dominique B. Gravaso
– Jann Claudine M. Amago-Hernandez
– Karyl Trinidad C. Acerden
– Ma. Christina Ernest M. De Oño

The program affirms EVSU GAD and MOVE’s continuing commitment to uphold the rights of women and children, ensuring equal opportunities and building communities where they can thrive free from violence and discrimination.
