Policy Statement
Pursuant to the Climate Change Act of 2009 (R.A. 9729), the People’s Survival Fund Act (R.A. 10174), the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act (R.A. 10121), and aligned with the Paris Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) commits to becoming a champion of climate action and resilience in higher education and community development.
EVSU shall:
Institutionalize climate-resilient policies and practices across all campuses, ensuring that infrastructure, operations, and governance systems are adaptive to climate risks and aligned with sustainability standards.
Integrate climate change education into curricula, research, and extension programs to equip students and stakeholders with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to address the climate crisis.
Strengthen disaster preparedness and risk reduction systems by establishing early warning mechanisms, emergency response protocols, and community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Advance applied research and innovation on renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, resilient infrastructure, coastal resource management, and climate-smart technologies to address both local and global challenges.
Promote low-carbon and environmentally sustainable practices in energy use, transport, waste management, and resource efficiency across the university.
Forge multi-stakeholder partnerships with government agencies, LGUs, industries, civil society, and international organizations to enhance climate action programs, capacity-building, and resource mobilization.
Empower communities through extension and advocacy programs that build resilience, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable livelihoods, particularly in climate-vulnerable areas of Eastern Visayas.
Monitor, evaluate, and report on EVSU’s carbon footprint, sustainability initiatives, and climate-related outcomes as part of its commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.
Through these strategies, EVSU envisions itself as a leading hub for climate action and resiliency in higher education, producing empowered graduates, innovative research, and community-driven solutions that contribute to global climate goals while safeguarding the future of Eastern Visayas.
