Policy Statement
In alignment with the Universal Health Care Act (R.A. 11223), the Clean Air Act (R.A. 8749), the Clean Water Act (R.A. 9275), and the World Health Organization’s Sustainable Development Goals framework, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) affirms its commitment to safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of its academic community and partner stakeholders.
EVSU shall:
Conduct research and innovation in marine science and fisheries to promote sustainable practices, protect biodiversity, and support climate-resilient coastal communities.
Strengthen community-based coastal resource management programs by working with fisherfolk, LGUs, and civil society to ensure the sustainable use of marine resources.
Integrate marine conservation and sustainability education into curricula, research, and extension programs to raise awareness and build stewardship among students, faculty, and partner communities.
Support sustainable fisheries management through capacity-building, technology transfer, and livelihood diversification for fisherfolk and coastal populations.
Implement marine pollution prevention strategies by promoting waste reduction, proper waste disposal, and advocacy campaigns to prevent plastic and chemical pollution of waterways and seas.
Promote mangrove reforestation, seagrass protection, and coral reef conservation as nature-based solutions for biodiversity protection and disaster risk reduction.
Forge partnerships with government agencies, international organizations, and local communities to strengthen conservation initiatives, marine research collaborations, and advocacy campaigns.
Institutionalize monitoring and evaluation systems to track the university’s impact on marine and coastal conservation, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
Through these strategies, EVSU commits to fostering a culture of health and resiliency that empowers its stakeholders to thrive physically, mentally, and socially, while contributing to national and global health goals.
