Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through active participation in global collaborations, research exchanges, and benchmarking initiatives that promote international best practices. In 2024, the University significantly expanded its global engagement by joining international conferences, training workshops, and cross-border partnerships that contribute to knowledge sharing and comparative learning in sustainability, education, health, and governance.

EVSU’s participation in prestigious events such as the International Joint Research and Training Workshop on Environmentally Green Technology for Sustainable Development Goals and Net Zero Emission in Taiwan, and the ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) International Conference in Vietnam, underscores its drive to align institutional practices with global standards. These engagements enabled the University to exchange expertise on green innovation, artificial intelligence integration, and quality assurance systems—strengthening its capacity to embed sustainability and excellence across its academic and research programs.

Furthering its commitment to sustainable development and global citizenship, EVSU formalized an international partnership with ASEZ WAO, a global youth volunteer organization promoting environmental stewardship and social well-being. This collaboration extends the University’s impact by translating international sustainability models into community-based initiatives focused on climate action, biodiversity protection, and inclusive development.

Additionally, through its participation in the Taiwan–Philippines Medical Leaders’ Forum, EVSU strengthened ties with academic and health institutions across Asia to enhance medical and technological education. This engagement fostered research collaboration and knowledge exchange on innovative health practices, contributing to the advancement of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Collectively, these initiatives reflect EVSU’s strategic pursuit of global partnerships that not only review and benchmark international approaches but also adapt and apply best practices to the local context. By fostering cross-border collaboration and translating shared knowledge into transformative action, EVSU positions itself as a regional leader in integrating global excellence with local innovation for sustainable and inclusive development.

EVSU Participates in Global Workshop to Benchmark and Develop SDG Best Practices

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), represented by its Vice President for Research and Development and Extension Services (VPRDE), Dr. Analyn C. Españo, participated in the International Joint Research and Training Workshop on Environmentally Green Technology for Sustainable Development Goals and Net Zero Emission, held from October 29 to November 9, 2024 in Taiwan.

The 10-day training workshop, funded by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) of Taiwan and organized by National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) under the leadership of Prof. Ruey-an Dong and Dr. Hui Lin Ong, brought together experts, scientists, and academic leaders from 11 countries across Asia, including the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Out of more than 500 global applicants, EVSU was among only 31 institutions selected, reflecting the University’s growing reputation in sustainability and applied research.

The program focused on comparative approaches and innovative solutions that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Through lectures, collaborative research activities, and industry visits, participants reviewed international models of green technology and shared best practices toward achieving net-zero emissions.

Dr. Españo’s participation reinforces EVSU’s commitment to international collaboration and continuous learning from global exemplars in sustainability. The knowledge and networks gained from this engagement are now being integrated into EVSU’s research and extension initiatives to enhance its institutional capacity for sustainable innovation. The partnerships and insights developed through the workshop will help the University benchmark its practices against international standards and co-develop collaborative projects that translate global best practices into impactful local applications.

EVSU Engages in ASEAN Dialogue to Develop Best Practices in Quality Assurance and Higher Education

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), represented by its President, Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, participated in the ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) International Conference 2024 held on December 11–12, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Organized by Ton Duc Thang University and the ASEAN University Network (AUN), the conference carried the theme “Innovating ASEAN Higher Education: Embracing AI Integration, Database Utilization, and Future-Ready Quality Culture.” The event convened over 300 higher education leaders, quality assurance practitioners, and experts from across ASEAN and beyond to discuss innovations shaping the future of higher education.

The two-day conference served as a platform for institutions to review comparative quality assurance approaches, share emerging best practices, and collaborate on data-driven and AI-integrated systems to enhance educational quality. Through active engagement in these discussions, EVSU contributed to and gained valuable insights into international standards for institutional quality and continuous improvement.

EVSU’s participation underscores its dedication to aligning with global quality assurance benchmarks and advancing SDG 4 (Quality Education) through regional and international collaboration. By integrating lessons and practices learned from ASEAN counterparts, the University strengthens its capacity to foster a future-ready quality culture—bridging global innovations with local educational impact.

EVSU Partners with ASEZ WAO to Advance Global Best Practices in Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), represented by University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, formalized a partnership with ASEZ WAO, an international volunteer organization dedicated to sustainable development and environmental advocacy. The collaboration, facilitated by the Office of the Vice President for Internationalization and External Affairs, was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held on August 8, 2024, at the ORDExS Studio Room.

Representing ASEZ WAO were Mr. Matthew Park, the organization’s manager, and Ms. Pia Choi, team leader. ASEZ WAO—short for “Let’s Save the Earth from A to Z as One Family”—is a global youth movement that implements volunteer-driven initiatives to address pressing challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and educational empowerment.

As the first state university in the region to partner with ASEZ WAO, EVSU positions itself at the forefront of international collaboration for sustainable development. The partnership promotes the exchange of knowledge and best practices from global environmental movements, allowing the University to adapt and apply innovative strategies for community engagement, environmental protection, and social well-being.

Under the MOU, EVSU and ASEZ WAO will implement programs categorized under “Campaigns for Humanity” and “Campaigns for Earth”, focusing on sustainable living, climate resilience, and inclusive community growth. These collaborative activities reinforce EVSU’s role as a catalyst for localizing international sustainability models—transforming global best practices into actionable, impactful programs that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

EVSU Advances Global Best Practices through International Collaboration in Medical Education

The Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) continues to advance its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through global partnerships that promote innovation, research, and educational excellence. In May 2024, EVSU, represented by University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, participated in the Taiwan–Philippines Medical Leaders’ Forum held from May 7–10, 2024, in Taiwan. The university was among only ten higher education institutions in the Philippines selected by the Taiwan Education Center to join this international event.

The forum served as a strategic platform for universities in Taiwan and the Philippines to exchange best practices in medical education, research collaboration, and sustainable health initiatives—advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Discussions covered key areas such as curriculum development, student and faculty mobility, global medical rotations, long-term care systems, and emerging technologies in health and nutrition.

Through these engagements, EVSU gained valuable insights on how regional and international universities address healthcare and education challenges in alignment with global standards. The delegation—composed of Dr. De Paz (EVSU President), Prof. Bernard Niño Membrebe (Dean of the College of Technology), and Prof. Faustito A. Aure ( Director for Internationalization) —actively engaged in institutional visits and knowledge-sharing sessions designed to develop comparative approaches and adapt best practices suitable for the Philippine context.

This initiative also strengthened EVSU’s ties with the Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association, which continues to link the University to technological and academic networks across Asia. The partnerships formed during the forum are expected to lead to joint research initiatives, student exchange programs, and collaborative projects that enhance the University’s academic and extension services.

Through this international engagement, EVSU demonstrates its growing role as a knowledge hub for sustainable medical and technological education, ensuring that the insights gained from global collaborations are translated into meaningful contributions for local and regional development.
