Policy Statement

In reference to the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (R.A. 8435), the Organic Agriculture Act (R.A. 10068), the National Food Security Plan, and aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) reaffirms its commitment to advancing food security, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture for the people of Eastern Visayas and beyond.

EVSU shall:

Promote sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture by conducting research and extension programs that introduce innovative, adaptive, and eco-friendly farming and fisheries technologies.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Support community-based farming and food production systems through capacity-building, livelihood initiatives, and partnerships with farmers, fisherfolk, cooperatives, and local governments.

Develop campus-based food production models—such as organic farms, aquaculture systems, and edible landscapes—that serve as living laboratories for students and community stakeholders.

Enhance nutrition education and food literacy by integrating nutrition, food systems, and sustainable diets into academic programs, research, and community outreach.

Foster inclusive agricultural innovation that empowers smallholder farmers, women, indigenous peoples, and marginalized communities to participate equitably in food production and agribusiness.

Leverage technology and digital platforms to support precision farming, smart agriculture, and market linkages that strengthen local and regional food value chains.

Build partnerships with government, industry, and civil society to advance policy advocacy, resource mobilization, and collaborative programs addressing hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity.

Institutionalize food security and resilience programs within the university, including feeding initiatives, food banks, and disaster-responsive food systems for vulnerable groups.

Through these commitments, EVSU envisions itself as a regional leader in sustainable agriculture and food security, producing innovative solutions, empowered graduates, and resilient communities that contribute to the eradication of hunger and the achievement of sustainable development.
