A key highlight of EVSU’s public engagement is its hosting of annual international conferences and research forums that bring together global experts, scholars, industry partners, and community leaders. These high-impact gatherings provide an open avenue for knowledge exchange, cutting-edge research dissemination, and multi-stakeholder collaboration—benefiting not only the academic community but also the general public who are encouraged to participate.

Many of EVSU’s programs are free of charge, ensuring equitable access for marginalized and underserved groups. The university also offers revenue-generating educational events to ensure financial sustainability while maintaining broad public accessibility.

7th International STEAM+ Research Congress “STEAM+ for Sustainable Futures: Bridging Research, Innovation, and Extension”

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) continued to strengthen its commitment to lifelong learning and global knowledge exchange through the successful conduct of the 7th International STEAM+ Research Congress, held on July 22–24, 2024. Now on its seventh year, the annual international congress serves as an inclusive and interdisciplinary platform for researchers, educators, young professionals, industry partners, and community innovators to share new knowledge and emerging solutions in Science, Technology, Engineering, Agri-Fisheries, and Mathematics (STEAM).

Expanding its coverage beyond the traditional STEAM fields, the 2024 STEAM+ Congress integrated additional disciplines that significantly impact people’s lives and communities, including health care (nutrition and dietetics and related fields) and social sciences (economics, humanities and related fields).This holistic approach aligned with the event’s emphasis on sustainable development—promoting innovations that address environmental, socio-economic, and public health challenges.

The event featured keynote presentations, plenary exchanges, parallel research sessions, and collaborative networking activities. While registration was required to support conference operations, the congress remained open to both national and international participants, enabling broad public engagement in research, extension insights, and interdisciplinary learning.

Through this major academic gathering, EVSU advanced its role as a regional hub for lifelong learning, fostering evidence-based solutions, strengthening research culture, and expanding global partnerships. The university’s inclusive approach ensures that knowledge generated through the congress contributes to community empowerment and the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 4: Quality Education

3rd National DABEST Students Research and Development Congress “Igniting Young Minds, Sparking Innovation”

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) upholds its strong commitment to lifelong learning and research culture development by hosting the 3rd National DABEST Students Research and Development Congress on October 17–18, 2024. This national event provides an inclusive platform for student researchers from diverse fields—including Sciences, Engineering, Technology and Innovation, Business and Economics, Arts and Humanities, and Agri-Fisheries—to present their research outputs and engage in multidisciplinary discourse.

The congress features oral and poster presentations, allowing students to disseminate their findings to academic peers, experts, and community stakeholders. A panel of evaluators assesses the presentations based on established criteria, ensuring academic rigor and constructive feedback. Competitive categories further encourage excellence, as outstanding student researchers receive awards and recognition that contribute to their academic and career development.

Renowned speakers from various sectors are invited to deliver keynote lectures and topical discussions on emerging research trends and societal challenges.

These engagements enable participants to gain up-to-date knowledge, expand professional networks, and strengthen their motivation for innovation-driven solutions.

While registration is required to support event facilitation, the DABEST Congress is open to students and academic mentors nationwide, making it an important gathering for expanding research accessibility and encouraging youth-led innovation. Through this initiative, EVSU contributes directly to SDG 4: Quality Education, nurturing a new generation of researchers and knowledge creators who are capable of driving progress in both local and national development landscapes.

13th International Business Summit “Digital Entrepreneurship for Future Transformative Leaders: Empowering Generation Alpha for Global Innovation”

Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) successfully commenced the 13th International Business Summit, bringing together young, vibrant, and entrepreneurial students from a wide network of higher education institutions across Eastern Visayas. Participants include delegates from EVSU and various partner academic institutions such as ADFC, BCC, City College of Ormoc, Colegio de Las Navas, CDSLRDM, ESSU, FCIC, Leyte Colleges, NwSSU, PIT, St. Michael College of Hindang, St. Mary’s College of Borongan, Sto. Niño College of Ormoc, SLSU, VSU, CKC of Calbayog, and Bato Institute of Science and Technology.

Held on November 14-15, 2024, at the Tacloban People’s Center and Library, the summit highlights the theme “Digital Entrepreneurship for Future Transformative Leaders: Empowering Generation Alpha for Global Innovation.” The event gathers trailblazers from the academe, government, and private sector who serve as catalysts for innovation and youth empowerment.

EVSU leadership is strongly represented by Dr. Analyn Españo, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Services, and Dr. Danilo Pulma, Vice President for Internationalization and External Affairs. The summit is organized by the Office of Alumni Relations and Affairs, headed by Dr. Felix Barrion, underscoring EVSU’s continued efforts to leverage partnerships and strengthen lifelong learning initiatives.

This collaborative learning experience aims to equip Generation Alpha with the skills, competencies, and entrepreneurial mindset needed to thrive in a VUCA world—volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. By bridging digital transformation and youth innovation, the summit fosters resilience, creativity, leadership, and global competitiveness aligned with evolving technological and economic systems.
