Commitment to Living Wage Employment Practices
Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) recognizes that its greatest strength lies in its people — the faculty, staff, and support workers who make its mission of education and service possible. As part of its responsibility to uphold dignity and fairness in the workplace, EVSU commits itself to Living Wage Employment Practices. A living wage goes beyond the legal minimum wage. It ensures that employees earn enough to cover the basic needs of their families such as food, housing, healthcare, transportation, and education. By committing to this principle, EVSU affirms that decent work is essential for the well-being of its workforce and for the success of the university.
This commitment is guided by the following legal provisions and standards:
- Article XIII, Section 3 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which mandates the State to afford full protection to labor, including a living wage.
- Republic Act No. 6727 (Wage Rationalization Act), which provides for the establishment of minimum wages that consider the needs of workers and their families.
- Republic Act No. 11466 (Salary Standardization Law of 2019, SSL V), which sets the compensation framework for government personnel, including those in state universities and colleges, ensuring equitable and competitive salaries.
In line with these provisions, EVSU ensures:
- Fair Compensation – guaranteeing that all employees, whether permanent, contractual, or support staff, receive compensation compliant with the Salary Standardization Law and aligned, where possible, with the principle of a living wage.
- Equity in Employment – applying wage and benefit standards consistently to promote fairness across all employment categories.
- Regular Review – aligning salary practices with adjustments under the SSL, national wage orders, and the evolving cost of living.
- Respect and Dignity – recognizing that financial security allows employees to perform their roles with greater motivation, productivity, and pride.
Through this, EVSU strengthens its role as a model of responsible employment in Eastern Visayas, upholding national laws while advancing the broader goal of inclusive and sustainable growth.
