The Gender and Development (GAD) Office of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) spearheaded a dynamic three-day seminar-workshop for GAD coordinators from both the main and external campuses, held on April 28-30 at the GS Function Hall. This initiative aimed to strengthen GAD mainstreaming in the university by providing a comprehensive reorientation on foundational concepts, performance evaluation, and strategic planning.
The opening day featured an insightful discussion on the history and principles of GAD, led by Dr. Fatima Quianzon, EVSU’s GAD Director. Adding further depth to the session, Mr. Kim A. Operario, Education Program Specialist II of CHED Region 8, elaborated on CMO No.1 Series 2015. The day concluded with an engaging presentation on Basic GAD Concepts by Ms. Angelli Marie Antoni, GAD Coordinator.
On the second day, Budget Officer I, Ms. Michelou E. Guisihan, delivered a clear and detailed presentation on EVSU’s fund allocation. Meanwhile, setting the stage for a critical discussion on the procedures for accomplishing the Annual Gender and Development (GAD) Plan and Budget, expertly facilitated by Ms. Anna Marie Alonzo, GAD Coordinator of Burauen Campus. Prof. Rustom Clemente, Extension Services Director, also shared valuable insights into best practices within his department, highlighting successful collaborations with GAD initiatives.
Closing the seminar with a forward-thinking approach, Ms. Julie Ann L. Gadin, Planning Officer I, explored both theoretical and practical strategies for integrating GAD into institutional planning. She emphasized the strategic use of the Harmonized GAD Guidelines (HGDG) in infrastructure and program design, reinforcing the importance of inclusive and sustainable development.
This initiative accentuates EVSU’s commitment to transformative and inclusive education. By continually refining and implementing progressive GAD strategies, the university reaffirms its dedication to serving marginalized communities and advancing gender-responsive initiatives.
