News 2nd Quarter EVCIEERD-TWG Meeting Strengthens Regional STI Collaboration and Policy Direction

On May 6, 2025, the Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development – Technical Working Group (EVCIEERD-TWG) convened its 2nd Quarter Meeting at Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), led by TWG Chair Dr. Analyn C. España, VP for Research, Development, Extension, and Sustainability of EVSU.

More than a regular coordination event, the meeting served as a critical venue for shaping research and innovation directions in Eastern Visayas. Key discussions included the endorsement of a proposed policy on resource sharing, a move that is expected to foster more efficient use of regional research infrastructure and expertise across member institutions. Updates on collaborative engagements with EVHRDC and ViCARP highlighted ongoing synergies in health and agriculture-related R&D, while EVCIEERD’s progress toward PCIEERD targets reaffirmed its alignment with national STI priorities.
Notably, the presentation of a planned hackathon in partnership with LGU Catbalogan signals a proactive thrust to harness youth creativity and local talent for technology-based solutions—further bridging innovation and inclusive development.

The active participation of TWG members and partner institutions, as seen in the focused deliberations, reflects a strong commitment to maximizing the region’s research potential. The meeting concluded with remarks from Dr. Ramil T. Uy, Provincial Director of DOST-Southern Leyte and EVCIEERD Consortium Coordinator, emphasizing the importance of consolidated efforts in accelerating innovation ecosystems in the region.
