Tacloban City, Philippines – De La Salle University’s Professor Dr. Dinah Roma, an acclaimed author, unveiled her recently published book, “Weaving Basey: A Poet’s History of Home,” in a heartwarming event held on June 07, 2024, at the EVSU-Main Campus Graduate School Function Hall.
The launch was graced by key university officials, representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Basey, and faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences, creating an atmosphere that blended intellectual camaraderie and cultural pride.
In her speech, Dr. Roma revealed that the core inspiration for her book was the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda. It required the span of eight years to complete the manuscript. She emphasized the healing power of storytelling, the role of literature in rebuilding memories, and its capacity to drive social change.
Throughout her journey, she said, “For the longest time in my life, I have never really looked back and said: What is Basey?” This introspection, as she explained, led her to explore the deep history and cultures of her hometown. The author passionately discussed the educational impact of the literary arts, asserting that storytelling is essential for preserving history and fostering community resilience.
“Weaving Basey” promises to be a significant addition to Philippine literature, offering readers a poetic journey through the essence of home and heritage. As the event concluded, the attendees expressed their admiration for Dr. Roma’s dedication and her poignant contribution to literature.
The book launch not only celebrated the culmination of years of hard work but also highlighted the enduring power of written works to connect, heal, and inspire.
