The City Government of Catbalogan, in partnership with DOST, EVCIEERD and other partner agencies recently concluded regional Smart Communities Engagement and Networking Exposition (rSCENE) 2025 held at the Tandaya Hall of Catabalogan City, Samar on June 18.

The rSCENE 2025 with the theme “Kauswagan: Harnessing Technology towards Sustainable Development,” brought together teams from various state universities and colleges across Eastern Visayas to showcase innovation, creativity, and community-driven technological solutions.

The Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (EVCIEERD) was represented  by TWG Chairman, Dr. Analyn C. Españo along with secretariat members Mr. Norberto Claridad and Engr. Roxcella Reas. During the event, Dr. Españo conveyed the EVCIEERD’s message of support for the rSCENE initiative.

This gathering served as a meeting of minds, a call for stronger collaboration in building resilient, tech-driven communities in the region as highlighted by DOST Secretary, Dr. Renato U. Solidum in his keynote.

EVSU’s delegation arrived alongside the EVCIEERD representatives and comprised of student competitors with their coaches, Prof. Ronnie Cabillan, Prof. Wit Excelsion Paña, and Prof. Eric O. Sta. Singh, faculty from the IT department, chaired by Dr. Jessie Paragas. The rSCENE administrators awarded the EVSU contingent with the “Most-Participated Delegation” special award.

The university proudly showcased its tech-savvy and tournament-ready students during rSCENE 2025, bagging the championship title in the Code in the Dark/Frontend UI competition, securing 4th place in both the Hackathon and Idea Reverse Pitching events, and earning shared 3rd place finishes in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Valorant esports tournaments.
