News COE faculty, students bag awards in int’l confab

Students and Faculty members from the College of Engineering won best paper and best presenter awards during the first International Conference on Business, Education, Innovation and Sustainable Technology (ICBEIST) 2025. The conference was hosted by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Open University System on March 26-29, 2025.

In the Engineering Strand (Room 3), Prof. Mark Kevin T. Cidro, along with Mr. Lee Justin Rondina, Mr. Osmer Gabriel Deypalan, Ms. Hazel Oledan Cadiente, and Mr. Julimar Salidaga Labor, won the 1st Best Paper and Best Presenter awards for their study, “Simplified Approach to the Analysis of the Angle of Rotation and Translation of Euler-Bernoulli Beams.”

Meanwhile, in the Engineering Strand (Room 2), Prof. Hannah Marie C. Entatano, together with Engr. Dyan D. de Leon, Engr. Jovell O. Pepe, Mr. Jomar N. Bertes, and Mr. Regiemar T. Bertes, secured the 2nd Best Paper and Best Presenter awards for their research, “Enhancing Road Safety on Tacloban Bypass Road, Philippines: A GIS-Based Risk Assessment.”

This year’s ICBEIST conference, following the theme “Innovative Synergies: Transforming Business, Governance, Media, Education, and Technology for a Sustainable Future,” brought together researchers of various fields from HEIs and universities across the country.

Further, the conference featured plenary talks from distinguished academics such as Dr. Desiderio R. Apag, III, CHED Commissioner and Dr. Jonathan V. Taylar, Research Coordinator of the National University.
