News EVSU celebrates Pink October, advances role of Breastfeeding

The Eastern Visayas State University- Gender and Development Office in coordination with EVSU MPC co-sponsored in the Breast Cancer Awareness Forum at the EVSU Administration lobby yesterday, October 27, 2025.

Ms. Liza B. Calda’s advocacy to spread positivity and hope for breast cancer survivors, inspires hope and optimism.

The activity raises awareness about breast cancer, and reminds us of the powerful role breastfeeding plays in prevention. Dr. Glenda Tupaz, the GAD Director, reiterated that “breastfeeding is a gift; not only nourishing our children but also serving as a natural shield for mothers against breast cancer.” Aside from RA 9710 (Magna Carta of Women) that supports breastfeeding, RA 10028 or the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009 also encapsulates educating and providing knowledge to pregnant mothers on the advantages of breastfeeding and its crucial role as a preventive measure to counter breast cancer. Dr. Tupaz ‘ story as a breastfeeding mother to her five children is a testament and a manifestation on the crucial role of breastfeeding in raising healthy super kids.

This simple, loving act has the potential to save lives which strengthens the bond between mother and child and empowers women to protect their own health. Let us commit to supporting and encouraging breastfeeding in our communities, fostering awareness and early prevention.
Together, through education, compassion, and action, we can reduce the risk of breast cancer and lift up the strength of women everywhere. Dr. Tupaz posited, “May this Pink October inspire us all to nurture life and health in every way possible.”
