News EVSU-DLL rolls out project BISA and project TRAIN with DSWD-SLP

The Department of Languages and Literature strengthened its extension service endeavors, tagged as Extension Activity Project BISA and Project TRAIN Launching, through its collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development- Sustainable Livelihood Program on February 4, at the SAS Conference Room.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Christine Dawn Mombay, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, highlighted the importance of faculty collaboration with the DSWD in performing their four-fold functions. “We consider it as a very special day for us because we are not just functioning our main work-which is instruction, but we are extending our roles to public service,” she stated.

Guided by a clear vision, Mr. Benjie Pelen, SLP- Regional Program Coordinator, commended the initiatives of EVSU-DLL faculty in providing technical assistance to the DSWD- Sustainable Livelihood Program officers and staff. “This activity marks the launch of the project in partnership with EVSU, made possible through the expertise of our EVSU partners,” he noted.

Working closely with community partners, Prof. Catheryn Tadios-Pacle, BAEL Extension Coordinator, ensures meaningful extension activities and ascertains right trajectory of both extension projects. “PROJECT TRAIN focuses on the development and implementation of extension activities designed to improve the technical writing and reporting skills of DSWD personnel; PROJECT BISA addresses the linguistic needs of the DSWD by providing specialized language translation services for documents intended for their clientele,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Prof. Raven Encina, BSF Extension Coordinator, led the discussion, highlighting the project title Proyektong Bisa: Pagtatanim ng Wika, Pagsasalin ng Diwa. This topic primarily aimed to teach and apply translation skills to effectively convey ideas and preserve cultural meaning.

Prof. Pacle expounded on ‘Project TRAIN- the WH of Technical Writing and Reporting: What Every Office Staff Needs to Know’. This serves as practical guide to help staff communicate clearly, professionally, and accurately in reports, emails, or documentation.

Attending this significant event were Regional Partnership Officer Maria Christina Manicani, Provincial Partnership Officers, Provincial Coordinators, and SLP Social Marketing Officers.

The department’s commitment to advancing extension activities reflects its dedication to enlivening the core of EVSU’s extension services—fostering community development—knowing that communication and collaboration are key to effectively sharing knowledge, skills, and resources with the community.
