On March 20, 2026, the Eastern Visayas State University community traded their office spaces for the muddy shores of the Sibukaw delta in Palo, Leyte, to take part in a massive Mangrove Planting Activity.
Represented by the dedicated faculty and staff through the EVSU Multipurpose Cooperative (EVSU-MPC), the university showed up in full force. While our cooperative was officially allocated a target of 90 mangrove propagules for the event, our EVSU employees went well above and beyond. Driven by environmental stewardship, our team kept planting, helping to root a massive chunk of the roughly 500 total seedlings planted along the coastline this morning.
This impactful community initiative was spearheaded by CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative, PHCCI MPC, and JCI Tacloban Kankabatok, as part of the Plant A SEED initiative—a program advocating for an Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EBA) approach to combat climate change.
We extend our gratitude to our collaborators, including Bestfriends MPC and the LGU of Palo, for making this nature-based solution a resounding success.
Today’s effort is a proof to EVSU’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and community service. Thank you to our hardworking employees who stepped up, got their hands dirty, and proved that the EVSU spirit always exceeds expectations for a greener Eastern Visayas!
