News EVSU faculty and staff strengthen competencies in Futures Thinking strategies through Capacity Development Workshop

To enhance their preparedness for future developments, select faculty and staff of the university participated in a capacity development workshop focused on Futures Thinking strategies.

The event aimed to equip participants with innovative methodologies for anticipating and adapting to emerging trends and challenges in education and beyond.

The two-day workshop, provided an in-depth exploration of Futures Thinking principles, enabling attendees to critically analyze current trends, identify potential future scenarios, and develop forward-thinking strategies. The activity was segmented into two modules. Module one focused on “Framing The Future.” The discussion involved awareness in defining the scope, boundaries, objectives, and benefits of future exploration to ensure alignment with strategic goals and stakeholder needs. This process provides direction, enhances alignment, facilitates informed decision-making, encourages innovation, and fosters support by focusing efforts on relevant challenges, incorporating diverse perspectives, and clarifying goals and uncertainties for better outcomes. Whereas module two anchored on “Value Creation” in a university set up. Its objective included the process and systems of creating value, monetization of the concept, and identification of its recipients.

Mr. Emmanuel R. De Guia, the Resident Futurist on the Committee for SDGs, Innovation, and Futures Thinking, presented his lecture on value generation for SUCs as a resource speaker. Ms. Jalaine Joyce V. Malabanan, a Course Specialist at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Institute of Open and Distance Education, delivered an insightful lecture on Futures Thinking.

Through this initiative, EVSU continues to uphold its commitment to academic excellence and institutional resilience by empowering its educators and staff with the necessary tools to navigate uncertainties and shape a more sustainable future. Participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights gained, emphasizing the importance of Futures Thinking in decision-making and policy formulation.

The university is committed to promoting ongoing professional growth among its faculty and staff, making certain they are adequately equipped to meet the changing needs of higher education and add significant value to societal advancement.
