News EVSU Fisheries faculty join int’l summer school program in Thailand

Two (2) faculty members from the Fisheries Department of EVSU– Carigara Campus, Ma. Theresa Salamida and Roan N. Merelos, RFP participated in the Silpakorn University Summer School 2025, hosted by the Faculty of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Technology, Phetchaburi IT Campus, in Cha-am, Phetchaburi, Thailand, from June 22 to 29, 2025.

This year’s Summer School brought together 57 participants from 15 Asian universities across 7 countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Taiwan, Korea, and the Philippines.

The program featured a rich mix of academic lectures, hands-on laboratory activities, workshops, field visits, and cultural exchange activities, aimed at enhancing international understanding and collaboration in the fields of agriculture, animal science, fisheries science, crop technology, agribusiness, and agricultural extension.

In addition to their participation in program activities, Ms. Salamida and Mr. Merelos had the opportunity to engage in a collaborative dialogue with the faculty of the Fisheries Science Department of Silpakorn University.

They met with Asst. Prof. Dr. Pawapol Kongchum, Head of the Fisheries Science Program, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sawika Kunlapapuk to discuss potential academic cooperation.

The meeting focused on possible partnerships in student exchange, collaborative instruction, joint research, and fisheries extension programs, marking a meaningful step toward building a strong academic linkage between EVSU and Silpakorn University.

Their participation highlights EVSU’s ongoing commitment to internationalization, faculty development, and global academic engagement.

The insights and networks gained from this international program are expected to contribute significantly to the improvement of fisheries instruction, research, and extension services at EVSU – Carigara Campus and the broader fisheries sector in the region.
