As part of the Eastern Visayas State University’s (EVSU) globalization efforts, the university, through its Internationalization Office, hosted the Akiramenaide Kapwa Japan Film Festival from November 17 to 18, 2025.
The Festival was officially opened with a ceremony at the ORIES Studio, attended by University Key Officials, welcoming the dignitaries from the JFF Theatre. The opening program also featured key talks that were led by Dr. Norman Zafra, director of Ponce in Kimono, one of the films included in the Film Festival’s lineup. Dr. Zafra shared to the audience his creative process in producing the documentary as well as key insights that helped shaped its narrative.
Also present during the opening was Dr. Kanami Namiki, Assistant Director of Arts and Culture at The Japan Foundation Manila, whose participation highlighted the event’s role in strengthening cross-cultural understanding.
Across two days, the festival showcased a selection of Japanese films, with continued screenings held at the Miguel Romualdez Memorial Auditorium. Students and faculty were encouraged to attend and engage in this enriching cultural exchange experience.
