News DOST and EVSU link with MOA signing on Natural Textile Innovation Hub and Textile Academy projects

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and EVSU continue to solidify their strong partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on June 26 at the Tacloban People Center and Library.

The MOU and MOA includes the opening of the Natural Textile Innovation Hub which will spearhead research and development focused on the harnessing the country’s rich natural fibers and traditional weaving techniques. Further, another focal point of the partnership is the establishment of the Textile Academy, designed to nurture talent and train future designers and researchers with the skills needed to innovate in the textile sector.

In attendance were university and agency key officials namely, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, EVSU President, Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Jr., DOST- PTRI, Director, Hon. Renato U. Solidum, DOST Secretary, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Dr. Rico J. Cabangon, DOST- FPRDI, Deputy Director, and Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, VSU President.

The signed documents outline plans for collaborative projects spanning research, fiber processing, and textile engineering. The partnership promises to spark innovation and empower local communities engaged in traditional weaving practices.

As these initiatives unfold, EVSU and DOST join hands in redefining the local and national textile landscape, merging innovation with tradition to forge a sustainable and culturally rich future.
