Eastern Visayas State University commenced a groundbreaking engagement with Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 8 on March 15, 2020 at DSWD-RRCY, Brgy Sto. Niño, Tanauan, Leyte.
The Memorandum of Agreement reiterates further commitment of EVSU and DSWD FO8 to support Tertiary Education of children in conflict with law under DSWD Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (DSWD-RRCY) program. The formal signing was eventuated by Mrs. Grace Q. Subong, Regional Director, DSWD FO 8 and Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the University President.
As for the record, there are 12 graduating STEM students from Tanauan School of Arts and Trade where select teachers help shape the future of these children who are in conflict with law.
The program seems to elicit a transformative landscape to the students where new hope emanates from their desire to change, and, eventually, secure a better future despite records of juvenile delinquency.
“This partnership will be assured as long as we have the facility at their end because the school cannot provide,” Dr. Benedicto T. Militante, Jr., Vice President for Research & Development, and Extension Services, recounted.
Asked anent the possible admission of these Senior High School graduating students to EVSU Tanauan Campus for collegiate program admission, Dr. Militante sees a silver lining acclimatization as he observes transformation these children evince through their involvement in the academe vibrantly.
If this comes to reality, EVSU will be the first institution to help these children earn a degree while the legal case is adjudicated. However, the university is planning to craft a specialized curricular framework for them so as to shape a brighter future and instill in them moral compass throughout their academic endeavor.
Indeed, EVSU continues to create an impact to society by bridging the gap between commitment to change and courage to pursue dreams of these students whose lives have been anchored on unbridled liberty. If this eventuates, Dr. Militante said that this will be a landmark program of EVSU in the future.
Also present in the said activity were the Campus Director of EVSU-Tanauan Campus, Dr. Annabelle Pilapil, Dr. Ramelito Paler, Head of the Extension Services, Dr. Jovito Madeja, Director of the Extension Services, among others.
