News EVSU intensifies tech-related training, propels commercialization purview

The Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) and Innovation Technology Support Office (ITSO) conducted a seminar dubbed Technology Promotion and Commercialization Mentorship Series (TPCMS) at Room 208, Engineering Building, on May 6-10, May 13-17, 2024, respectively.

The primary thrust of IPTBM is to provide training and mentorship as regards the promotion of technology and commercialization of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials pursuant to RA 8392 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) and RA 10055 (Technology Transfer Act of the Philippines). The office is the technical arm of ITSO under the leadership of Dr. Pearl Aphrodite Carnice. Meanwhile, Dr. Wendie Velarde heads the ITSO itself.

Select faculty with applied technology from different colleges and external campuses were invited to capacitate them in technology promotion and commercialization. Rich interactions and insightful exchanges of ideas among the participants paved the way for the realization of the event.

Moreover, topics were discussed, including Information, Education, and Communication Development and Production, Intellectual Property Valuation, Financial Management, and Feasibility Study, all anchored on technology promotion and commercialization mentorship round.

It can be recollected that IPTBM has been under the Regional Agri-aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE), with the agenda of boosting agricultural and aquatic sectors in the region. Subsequently, the efforts of these offices to raise technology and innovation yields were successfully realized. ‘We already have two (2) technologies that have been commercialized,” said Ms. Marris Varona, IPTBMO Project Assistant.

With the commercialization of Pineapple Cupcake and Lato Puree, and more in the pipeline, the office, with the strong base of the university, will be the technological hub in the region, pioneering innovation and development undertakings that will help create a sustainable society.

In the interim, the university has 23 applications for pre-commercialization, subject for the perusal of the pertinent data and its ultimate impact. However, one of the challenges is attributed to the financial aspect, which encapsulates market study, feasibility, study, and IP evaluation rigors.

As a technologically driven institution, EVSU will continue to translate ideas into realities, profoundly impacting the world.
