News EVSU teams reign supreme at Byte Forward Hackathon Visayas leg; qualifies for Nationals

Two teams from EVSU have emerged triumphant during the Byte Forward Hackathon-Visayas leg competitions held this July 24–25 at Annex B, Leyte Academic Center, Palo, Leyte.

The Byte Forward Hackathon is designed to serve as a catalyst for innovation and digital solutions among student developers.

The Visayas Leg saw strong competition from institutions across the region but our EVSUnistas emerged as a dominant force.

Leading EVSU’s charge was Team EXCELR8, who won first place and a cash prize of 50,000 PHP, joining them on the winners’ podium was Team Soft & Hack, securing third place and a 20,000 PHP cash prize.

Team EXCELR8 is composed of Shawn Michael A. Sudaria, John Ivan Galang, Charles Laurence Gula, and Florante Benitez Jr. Meanwhile, Team Soft & Hack is represented by Peter Jade Talabucon, Axyll Judd G. Picardal, Aldrin Rey N. Taberara, and Ramcez James L. Fat.

Both teams hail from the university’s IT Department, headed by Dr. Jessie R. Paragas, and were mentored by their dedicated coaches: Prof. Wit Excelsior Paña, Prof. Eric O. Sta. Singh, and Prof. Ronnie G. Cabillan.

Following their strong performance during the Visayas leg, EVSU’s representatives are set to bring their creativity, skill, and determination to the national stage, carrying with them the hopes of the university and the Eastern Visayas region.
