News GAD, LIFE collaborate in Gender Responsive DRRM Training

The office of Gender and Development (GAD) and the Learning Institute for Environment (LIFE) collaborated in Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Training with Climate Change Adaptation Perspective, May 16-17 at the Graduate School Function Hall of Eastern Visayas State University.

The activity aimed to provide germane information on climate change adaptation and DRRM and how these intersect with gender and development.

“The activity was conceptualized from the realization that women and female children suffer the most in disasters. Gender, climate change and DRRM are intersecting issues. Climate change brings inevitable disaster and the latter is a gender issue,” said Dr. Fatima Socorro M. Quianzon, Director, Gender and Development.

The topics and activities were curated with the end view that the participants will have practical applications of the concepts learned.

The topics include “Basic concepts of gender; differentiate the sex and gender, their relationship” by Dr. Sonia T. Enrile; “Sexual Orientation Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Rights of LGBTQ or transgender” by Idr. Darryl Monge; Gender Responsive DRRM Programs in the Communities by Dr. Severo L. Blanco II; “Impact of Disaster on Men and Women” by Dr. Marlon E. Lora and Dr. Ma. Belinda C. Lora; “Managing Risks in the Face of Disaster” by Engr. Marites Bardelas; “Women’s Empowerment through DRRM” by Dr. Mary Jean P. Yanger and “Effective Waste Management” by Prof. Elvira Martija.
