To highlight the importance of aligning educational initiatives with commercial applications and foster a technopreneurial mindset among students, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) sat with representatives from the Wadhwani Foundation US in a round table discussion at the EVSU Executive House Board Room on May 10, Friday.
Southeast Asia Regional Director of the Wadhwani Foundation Lucrecio D. Delgado Jr. shared his insights on the university’s potential to become a technopreneurship hub in Leyte. Delgado advocates for a holistic approach that integrates innovation and entrepreneurship across all departments from the start of students’ college education.
“EVSU is the gateway as the technopreneuship hub in Leyte,” says Delgado in the discussion, highlighting the importance of anchoring innovations and inventions to commerce in EVSU’s approach to education.
In order to achieve this goal, he advocated for an organic convergence of all departments from the onset of their college education, urging them to “bring disruptions to education”.
As part of their program curriculum, College of Business and Entrepreneurship Dean Dr. Rose Anna L. Refuerzo and College of Engineering Dean Engr. Ramon I. Lim participated in the discussion.
Department heads of the two colleges were also present in the event: Dr. Melane A. Aguilar, Giselle Janna Joyce C. Morcilla, Darwin G. Navarrosa and Jeremy C. Ragot from COBE. Jay Gabriel F. Jimenez, Jessie R. Paragas, Vinyl A. Oquino, Constancio S. Mercolita Jr., Diosdado J. Lesiguez, and Asuncion Raquel N. Casio from the COE.
The said visit is part of a three-week educational tour from Metro Manila to the Visayas by Wadhwani Foundation representatives, which began on May 3 at EVSU. The team also met with other SUCs in the province and region.
The EVSU and Wadhwani Foundation solidified academic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 18, 2023. Both parties agreed to provide mutual support in business development and marketing activities, as well as to effectively use and integrate institutions’ technologies to offer business solutions.
The round table is part of ongoing efforts facilitated by the EVSU Office of Internationalization for Higher Education, led by IZN Director Faustito A. Aure, to strengthen the university’s engagement with the Wadhwani Foundation and to develop future projects and collaborations.
