News EVSU co-hosts Klima Eskwela climate action event

Eastern Visayas State University is currently co-hosting the two(2)-day Klima-Eskwela: Climate Science, Arts and Action at the ORIES Studio Room from November 27 to 28.

Klima-Eskwela is a learning initiative made possible through the collaboration of Eastern Visayas State University, the Climate Reality Project Philippines, the Climate Change Commission, and the City Government of Tacloban. The event aims to empower the youth’s understanding of climate science, policy, and governance, and to equip them with the capacity to transform theoretical knowledge into concrete climate action—particularly in addressing both climate and plastic crises.

The program is organized into three parts. The first segment focuses on the science, impacts, and solutions related to climate action. The second discusses the connection between climate change and the plastic crisis. The final segment introduces Project Niche, a youth engagement and project incubator initiative designed to help participants craft plastic-free projects and policies, which they will later present and implement in their respective campuses.

The event features distinguished academics and climate science advocates who bring expertise in disaster resilience, environmental governance, community development, and climate education. Their collective insights help deepen participants’ understanding of climate issues and inspire action-oriented solutions.

As EVSU continues its thrust toward becoming a National University for Resilience and Climate Action (NURCA), partnerships such as this play a vital role in cultivating a student body that is deeply informed about climate science and actively engaged in solutions-driven climate action.
