TACLOBAN CITY – Concluding its month-long celebration of the 2025 Intellectual Property Foundation Course, the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) gathered its community partners from across the region for a seminar-workshop held at the EVSU ORDExS Studio Room last April 29.
Discussions during the course centered around fundamental topics such as patents, copyright, trademarks, branding, and industrial design, marking the final activity of ITSO’s IP Foundation initiative.
Over four weeks, ITSO conducted a series of sessions for various groups—in the first week, the course was introduced to newly hired teachers and staff of Eastern Visayas State University. The second week involved personnel from the Department of Education (DepEd) representing different parts of Tacloban City. During the third week, the course was attended by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Finally, the fourth week brought together EVSU’s community partners.
Gracing the event were the Vice President for Research and Development and Extension Services, Dr. Analyn C. Españo; ITSO staff, led by Dr. Ma. Windie C. Velarde, Head of ITSO; and community partners from across the region.
The course was developed to help deepen the people’s understanding of how intellectual property works and its importance in protecting ideas and supporting business growth.
ITSO ended their IP course with high hopes of sustaining its momentum through the continued offering of similar activities to reach more people and to promote innovation throughout the region.
