Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) has entered a pivotal period of reflection as a multi-sectoral evaluation committee begins the official review of its 4th University President, Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, for possible reappointment. Composed of representatives from various sectors in higher education and public service, the committee is tasked with assessing the president’s performance and the impact of his leadership across the university system.
On May 8, the committee conducted a day-long evaluation across EVSU’s external campuses, beginning in Carigara, where they inspected offices, classrooms, and key facilities, including the Multi-species Fish Hatchery and Aquafarm; vital parts of the campus’ flagship Fisheries program. At the Tanauan Campus, aside from routine visits to academic and administrative units, the evaluators witnessed the ongoing Technolympics, a dynamic exhibit of student-led innovations and technical skills in action. The campus visit concluded in Burauen, where the committee toured standard facilities and took particular note of the Charcoal Briquetting Facility, a glimpse of the Burauen Campus’ agricultural efforts in promoting sustainability and supporting local livelihoods.
The following day, May 9, a public forum was held at the EVSU Graduate School Function Hall, bringing together faculty, students, staff, and external stakeholders. The open dialogue served as a platform for the university community to share their insights, concerns, and commendations regarding Dr. De Paz’s term.
