News ORD In-House Review Tallies 21 Paper Presentations

The Office of Research and Development, Eastern Visayas State University tallied 21 completed papers presented by faculty members across EVSU System, February 22-23 via zoom.

The Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc City Campus, College of Business and Entrepreneurship, and College of Technology hosted the event.

The said In-House Review is an essential process that allows the institution to ensure the quality and integrity of the research being conducted within its walls. This further ensures that the research is of the highest possible standard in terms of the methodology and the results, and meets the standards of ethical research conduct.

“One key benefit of in-house review is that it provides an opportunity for researchers to receive feedback and constructive criticism from their peers and colleagues. This feedback can help researchers to identify any flaws or weaknesses in their research design or methodology, and to make improvements to their work. It can also help to ensure that the research is aligned with the broader goals and priorities of the institution, and that it is contributing to the advancement of knowledge in a meaningful way”, mentioned Dr. Gerry de Cadiz, the Campus Director of EVSU-Ormoc.

The said undertaking was made possible through the effort of the Director of Research and Development, Dr Peal Aphrodite B. Carnice, who delivered the mechanics of presentation and criteria for evaluation and the support of the University President, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, Prof. Bernard Niño Membrebe, Dean of the College of Technology, Dr. Rose Anna Refuerzo, Dean of the College of Entrepreneurship, and the Vice-President for Research,Development and Extension Services, Dr. Analyn C. Españo.

The papers were judged based on the following criteria: For Research-Knowledge Generation Category, Originality of the research-25%; Significance of the findings/new knowledge- 20%; Methodology (adequacy and appropriateness)- 30%; Written report-15% and oral presentation- 10%.

Meanwhile, for the Development-Tech and Innovation Prototyping Category, the following are the criteria for judging: Relevance of the research/project-20%; Generation of new technology/information-30%; Methodology (adequacy and appropriateness- 25%; Written report-15% and Oral presentation-10%.

The papers presented were classified into Interior Design, Architecture, and Urban Planning; Environmental Science, Health and Community Development; Science, Technology, Engineering, Agri-Fisheries and Mathematics; and Education, Humanities and the Arts.

In the Interior Design, Architecture, and Urban Planning, the paper “Gabaldon School Building’s Roof Form: Defining the Urban Form of The Typhoon-Prone Area in the “University and School District” Of Athletic Road in Tacloban City” by Rommel Hidalgo and Leonilyn Barredo-Hildago was presented.

On the other hand, in the Environmental Science, Health, and Community Development, the following papers were presented: “Healthy Environment and Democratic Governance as Pathways to Peace: An Experience from a Rural Fishing Village in the Philippines” by Analyn C. Españo, Jett Quebec, and Guiraldo C. Fernandez, Jr.; “Cadmium, Nickel, and Lead Concentration of Municipal Dumpsite in Western Samar, Philippines “by Mariss B. Varona, Judy Ann L. Amistoso, and Pearl Aphrodite Carnice; “Unemployment Before–Amidst COVID-19: Shifts in the Predictive Factors of the Number of Weeks Spent Looking for Work’ by Wildred Jude Perante,Wilma Perante, and Ferdie Angelo Perante.

In addition, the Science, Technology, Engineering, Agri-Fisheries and Mathematics had the following papers: “Development of a Web-Based Farming Management System for Pitad Bisaja Integrated Farm” by Jasten Keneth D. Treceñe, Denmarc D. Babante,Andrea M.Florendo, Loreto P.Liporada and Aljon Abines;” Exploring the Impacts of Modern Rice Farming Technologies Among Small-Scale Rice Farmers in Tanauan, Leyte” by John Paul Villanueva, Samuel S.Sudario, Jinny Babe Vertudes, Gil Patrick P. Carrata, and April Rose C. Advincula; “DepTest: Self-Monitoring Android Application for Early Detection of Depression Among Students” by Jasten Keneth D. Treceñe, Allysa Jane L.Caya, Renalyn A.Dimaano, and Joshua Jake L. Ripalda; “Development of a Web-Based Information System for Permanent Housing Relocation in Tanauan, Leyte” by Francisco Y.Abendaño, Aljon L.Abines,Greg S.Campos, Michael B.Batan, Jake Lawrence M.Brier, Asuncion Indic, Fely L. Indic, ; “Exploring the Lived Experiences on The Impact of Tide Embankment Among Residents Along Coastal Areas in Tanauan, Leyte”by Samuel S.Sudario, Jaohn Paul Villanueva, Florencio M.Cornejo, Chelsea Anne Christinelle M.Jayme, and Justine C.Venigas.

Meanwhile, the Education, Humanities and the Arts had the following papers presented: “Rags to Riches: The Story of Festival in Tacloban City “ by Felix Dexter O. Perante; “Review of Related Literature “ by Gerald Jayson B. Balanga; “Level of Development and Research Publication Productivity among State Universities and Colleges Faculty: A Predictive Model” by Thea C.Galos, and Enriqueta D.Reston; “Effect of L1 Use on Writing Proficiency of Tertiary Students: A Quasi-Experimental Study” by Analyn Españo; “Markers in Select Electronic Essays of English Language Students” by Analyn Españo.

Only papers that obtained an overall rating of 85% and above shall be entitled for the Best Paper Award while published papers are not included in the competition.

The Best Paper winners will be announced in March and the Ist Place will receive 7,000; 2nd place-5,000 and 3rd place-3,000 respectively.

Dr. Ramil T. Uy of Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Joel Rey Acob of Visayas State University, and Dr. Constantino Medilo Jr. of Southern Leyte State University served as the panel of evaluators.
