News “Weaving Basey: A Poet’s History of Home” Book Launch on Yolanda’s 10th commemorative year

De La Salle University (DLSU), in collaboration with the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), launched “Weaving Basey: A Poet’s History of Home, a commemorative book project on Typhoon Yolanda on April 13, 2024 at the Pardo Hall, 5th Floor, Henry Sy Bldg, De La Salle University.

Written by the esteemed DLSU professor Dinah Roma, the book stands as a testament to the enduring bonds forged in the aftermath of Yolanda.

Pivotal to the development of the book project can be traced back to the “Haiyan Conversations,” a series of dialogues initiated in 2021 of the Eastern Visayas State University, where Professor Roma served as speaker in February 2022, to reflect on the lessons learned from Typhoon Yolanda. It was during these conversations that the idea for a collaborative book emerged, driven by a shared commitment to collective healing through writing our stories of trauma and survival from the supertyphoon.

DLSU Academician Dr. Alvin Culaba, EVSU president Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, Director for Internationalization for Higher Education Prof. Faustito A. Aure and Rex B. Palompon, Executive Assistant to the university president attended the said book launch. Present as well in the event are officials from the National Book Development Board (NBDB), DLSU University Officials, writers, graduates, and undergraduate students.

The book’s launch served as a poignant reminder of the indomitable spirit of Filipinos in the face of adversity in commemoration of the 10th year of typhoon Yolanda.

The University, as a project collaborator, is set to hold a book launch in April or May to be attended by EVSU faculty, employees and students.
