Abstract

Learning mathematics is one of the bases for further learning literacy and numeracy skills which is one of the contributed factor in the society. The aim of this study was to determine the cause of the reported low performance in an achievement test in Mathematics of the freshmen BSED students of EVSU-OCC. The researcher utilized the descriptive method of research with the use of the different tests that evaluate the achievement test in mathematics of the freshmen BSED students of EVSU-OCC. The study made use of the respondents were taken from the different courses through purposive sampling method. The students will be able to realize that mathematics has a vital role of their daily life activities. This is to find a common factor that affects their low achievement. Their performance was affected by the extrinsic factors and intrinsic factors.
