Abstract
The workplace, being a dynamic and changing environment, is widely regarded as a significant source of everyday stress for employees. Numerous researchers identified coping mechanisms for dealing with the demands of professional stress. Eastern Visayas State University – Tanauan Campus is intended to deliver timely and responsive services to its stakeholders as an academic institution. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between coping methods and occupational stress levels among EVSUTC employees in order to provide the groundwork for the possible implementation of a health and wellness program or policy intervention in stress management. The study was founded on the Job Demand Control Model, which elucidates the level of occupational stress experienced by individuals. The study used a standardized instrument and delivered questionnaires to 146 respondents in order to extract the various factors and their relationships. Additionally, a descriptive-correlational design was used, and suitable statistical treatment was observed in order to establish association. Self-efficacy (one's own motivation) was identified as the key coping strategy that was found to be beneficial in treating stress. Additionally, the data indicated that new employees exhibit a higher degree of stress, whereas those with a greater number of years of work or occupational experience exhibit a lower level of stress. The researchers recommend that university officials prioritize staff welfare by offering a health and wellness program to help academics cope with occupational stress. Health promotion and prevention policies should also be considered. Senior employees are also urged to advise and train junior colleagues in order to reduce occupational stress.
