Abstract
Social media and other online portals are becoming increasingly important in the Digital Age as employees stay up with advances in information and communication technologies. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the effects of social media and other English as a Second Language sites on the professional growth and interpersonal communication of online teachers. To elicit descriptive data about the perceptions of 64 randomly chosen male and female online English teachers working for a Korean company in the Philippines, quantitative approaches were applied via a survey instrument. According to the analysis of the data acquired, the majority of respondents said that they use social media and other English as a Second Language sites primarily for professional and social objectives. Instructors' primary usage of social media were to stay current on global events and to communicate with coworkers. In consequence, the majority of teachers thought that they gained knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity to their coworkers' concerns. Social media platforms and other online portals are not exclusively for social networking purposes. These are valuable resources that online teachers can utilize to accomplish both personal and professional goals, but they must be used with caution, as the user's perceived effects may have the opposite effect in fact.
