Abstract
Housing services play a vital role in fostering a productive and fulfilling academic experience by enhancing students’ self-confidence, social development, and overall well-being. This study examined students’ preferences and level of satisfaction with off-campus housing services at Eastern Visayas State University–Main Campus, with the aim of informing the development of responsive policies and programs that support students' academic and personal growth. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey research design. The participants were college students enrolled during the Academic Year 2023–2024, selected through purposive sampling and grouped according to gender. Data were collected through a structured online questionnaire and analyzed using Weighted Mean, Mann-Whitney U Test, and Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Findings revealed that both male and female students identified the social environment and cost as the most important and desirable aspects of off-campus housing. While students’ preferences significantly differed by gender, their satisfaction levels were largely similar. However, a notable gap was found between students’ preferences and their actual satisfaction, indicating that current housing services fall short of meeting their expectations. In light of these results, the study recommends that the University should develop targeted policies and initiatives to support students in accessing higher-quality and more suitable housing options.
