Abstract

Teachers play a critical role in educating children to face life's realities. They are the facilitators of knowledge, which requires more than topic expertise or methodological proficiency. Students' learning and growth are highly dependent on the teacher's efficacy. To assure qualified graduates, the Teacher Education Curriculum includes specific pre-service preparation. With the ultimate goal of enhancing student-teacher performance, this study assessed the degree of performance of BSED student teachers in Tacloban City Division as viewed by cooperating teachers and student teachers. The instructional skills, organizational skills, human relation skills, and professionalism of student instructors were evaluated. This study employed a descriptive-survey methodology. The findings indicated that student teachers' performance across the four abilities is generally regarded as highly satisfactory. Except for their professionalism-related attitude, the study found no significant association between level of performance on instructional skills, organizational skills, and human relation skills. It is advised that Teacher Education students engage in a variety of experiences, approaches, and tactics throughout their professional education disciplines in order to develop the necessary abilities for teaching. Educators should model values integration that is consistent with the subjects taught in order to improve students' ability to replicate once they enter the teaching profession.
